Oneironautics refers to the ability to travel within a dream on a conscious basis. Such a traveler in a dream may be called an oneironaut.
Daniël Hugo’s brand new graphic novel is a wonderful example of an individual’s skill in creating an immersive and rich visual world, filled with details that’ll delight every time you re-read it!
Drawn from a dream he had over two decades ago, Hugo diligently jotted down rough sketches of the characters, landscapes and talismans for future reference. It was only during lockdown in 2020 that finally Hugo found the opportunity to revise this story he had been brewing in the back of his mind and began putting ink down. The process of drawing this graphic novel helped keep the anxiety of 2020 at bay and a 100 pages flowed quickly out of Hugo as though they were meant to be!
The graphic novel is completely wordless and set in a parallel South African universe , following the adventures of a powerful femme protagonist who finds a mystical talisman on the beach and sets out to discover new magic with the help of wise and wonderful friends along the way…
This is the first glimpse into the rich world of Mekterra and will not be the last chapter, we hope that with the success of this publication there will be further off-shoots of this world and its characters to come!
